The French Academy of Surgery is the heiress of the Royal Academy of Surgery established in 1731 by Louis XV.

It settled down in 1775 in the magnificent building built under Louis XVI situated number 12 of the street of the School of Medicine, which is now the Paris Descartes Faculty of Medicine. It has a scientific and ethical vocation, and is the evaluation guarantor for the new techniques and for the teaching of the surgery.
