TRAINING IN SURGICAL TECHNIQUE APPLIED TO THE EXPERIMENT

WITHOUT USE OF LIVE ANIMAL

Training approved by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries,

On July 11th, 2011, according to the order of 19/04/1988

Approved by the National Commission of the Animal Experiment, (Decree 2013-118 of February 1st, 2013 - NOR: AGRG1238729A - Legifrance), these three days training course the technical and operational bases of surgery, and allows the acquisition of the skills necessary to perform experiments involving animal surgery.

The course is intended to researchers and technicians with the French "Formation Niveau 1" or "Niveau 2", to people from FELASA category A (persons taking care of animals), as well as category B (persons carrying out animal experiments) and C (persons responsible for directing animal experiments) or equivalent.

The Swiss Association of Cantonal Veterinarian (ASVC-VSKT) validates this training as three days of professional development for study directors and experimenters.

With this course, almost exclusively practical, every participant acquires safely the technical bases that are common to any surgery by the realization of simple exercises. The number of trainees is voluntarily limited to allow individual training, evaluation and certification for each exercise. The program includes the management of pain, infectious risks and aseptic techniques, the choice of sutures, management of haemorrhagic risk and handling of fragile tissues. The analysis of procedures proposed by the participants themselves enriches the discussion about critical points of a surgical procedure and ways to anticipate or limit complications. The course's manual, updated annually, compiles theoretical data with more than sixty colour illustrated pages. The educational impact estimated six months later, shows that on average more than 70 % of the participants modified their practices..

TRAINING IN STEREOTAXIC NEUROSURGERY FOR LABORATORY RODENT

WITHOUT USE OF LIVE ANIMAL

COURSES

This course also integrates prepared anatomical parts (vessels) and an innovative, flexible and biodegradable substitute, already in test.

NO live animals were used for realisation of pictures published on this site..

Microsurgery imposes to lurn the use of an operating microscope and the acquisition of a different gesture, based on the micro movements of fingers, forearm and wrist put.

WASP science proposes an initiation based on a physical model already known and used in the Diplômes Inter Universitaires of microsurgery (LYON & LILLE Universities).

TO COME, DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIALIST TRAINING

Consistent with the concept of total substitution, several modules of specialized surgery are under development. They aim to provide an answer to the new legal requirements of training throughout life: carcinologic excision and models of transplant, permanent catheterization for laboratory rodent, initiation to microsurgery…

These modules, of variable duration, allow to refine the movements or to learn about the surgery under operating microscope. The more complex procedures are approached with the same requirement, to validate the sequence of gestures to realize or to justify the technical choices.

The reconstruction is estimated by a cosmetic and technical point of view, to validate the choice for the best approach. This model is usable for education for general surgery, as for carcinologic surgery.

In both cases, the criteria for evaluation are adapted to the educational objectives.

The exercise, with its unique substitute, has for objective a dissection of a mass without touching it directly. Instrument holding is critical for this exercise, requiring correct angulations adapted to the mass, which can change in shape and size every time. The student first estimates the lesion by palpation, and then defines and justifies the section of the skin, before realizing the ablation procedure.

All courses, original teaching supports and substitutes are under the mark WASP, property of WASP Science.
